Best attractions in Kanchanburi

The Kwai River Railway Bridge

This is the best-known attraction of Kanchanaburi. Featured in the world’s most famous book and film, The Bridge on the River Kwai is part of the infamous Death Railway to Myanmar, spanning over the Kwai Yai River, built by the prisoners of World War II under the supervision of the Japanese Imperialist Military.

Hellfire Pass Memorial (Chong Khao Kad)

This is a 500-metre-long and 26-metre-deep pass that was cut through solid boulders and is notorious for claiming the most lives and deaths of many prisoners from Australia, England and the volunteers from Malayu (Malaysia). They died from many factors such as the tropical-climate outbreak as malaria and starvation.

Death Railway

It is a standing testimonial to WWII. It started in 1942 under Japanese Imperialist Military orders. This rail route links from Thailand’s Ban Pong (Ratchaburi) to the Burmese town, Thanbuyuzayat, for carrying supplies across into India. The highlight of it is that it crosses over a wooden viaduct hugging a cave-ridden cliff and some of the most picturesque countryside in the country. You can trace the Death Railway route by hopping on the train from Saphan Kwae Yai Station to the terminal station at Nam Tok (Sai Yok Noi Waterfall).
